Shephard, 42, has been the co-offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and wide receiver coach at Alabama for two seasons after spending two seasons as the wide receivers coach at Washington under Kalen DeBoer. Shephard came to Tuscaloosa alongside DeBoer from Washington, where Shephard produced two 1,000-yard receivers in Rome Odunze and Ja'Lynn Polk.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native has coached receivers at Western Kentucky, Purdue, Washington, and now Alabama. Shephard will likely remain with Alabama through the remainder of the Crimson Tide's season, but it is not yet confirmed if he will.

Alongside Shephard, Alabama has assistant coach Torey Gill helping coach wide receivers, and analyst Tyler Hughes served as the New England Patriots' wide receivers coach in 2024. The Patriots' leading wide receiver was DeMario Douglas, who caught 66 passes for 621 yards and three touchdowns. Kayshon Boutte also had 43 receptions for 589 yards and three touchdowns.

Shephard will lead Oregon State into the new Pac-12, which was revamped after losing key teams such as USC, Oregon, Washington, and UCLA to the Big Ten, and Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State to the Big 12. Oregon State and Washington State were the only two teams in the Pac-12 over the last two seasons, and will now be joined by Fresno State, Boise State, San Diego State, Utah State, Colorado State, and Texas State as football contributing members of the conference. Gonzaga is also joining the conference, but does not have a football team.
