College football is back, which means some new rules were implemented this offseason. One of these rules is the new helmet communication technology, which will eliminate play calls on posters and allow coaches on both sides of the ball to communicate with one player on the field.

College football coordinators will be allowed to communicate with a single player's helmet via "green dot" communication before the play call has 15 seconds left. On the back of the Green Dot helmet, one player from each defense and offensive side will wear a green decal.

This rule was enacted shortly after it was revealed that Connor Stalions, a former Michigan staffer, had been accused of stealing play calls and signals from opposing teams. Coaches can use helmet technology to avoid sign stealing, enhance the professional atmosphere of the game, and change their strategy on the fly. Coaches can adjust their game strategy sooner if a play fails.

Wednesday Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer said on CTSN's radio show 'Hey Coach' that the team's two "Green Dot" players this week will be quarterback Jalen Milroe and inside linebacker Deontae Lawson.

Milroe will wear the 'Green Dot' helmet this Saturday when the Alabama Crimson Tide face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Bryant-Denny Stadium. This will allow Alabama's offensive coordinator, Nick Sheridan, to communicate with the Redshirt Junior quarterback throughout the offensive drive until 15 seconds remain on the play clock. This should allow Sheridan to see more of the field as he and Milroe discuss what went wrong or what coverage the defense uses without Milroe having to come to the sideline.

Deontae Lawson will also wear the 'Green Dot' Helmet for the Crimson Tide's defense on Saturday. This will allow Kane Wommack to see what coverages are effective and which are not. He can immediately correct faults because he does not have to wait for the following drive or call a timeout to speak with his players.

Though Kane Wommack has selected Deontae Lawson, who is on the Lombardi Award watchlist, to wear the green dot helmet for week one, Alabama's defense features a number of potential leaders, including Jihaad Campbell and Malachi Moore.

The Tide will fdiscover Saturday how much this newly introduced rule will alter college football. Tune in to Tide100.9 this Saturday for the Crimson Tide's game versus the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at 6:00 p.m.
