Keenan Undergoing Tightrope Surgery

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer informed the media on Wednesday that Crimson Tide captain and starting defensive tackle Tim Keenan III would not play in Alabama's season opener against the Florida State Seminoles.

DeBoer did not reveal the full extent of Keenan's injury, but it was announced shortly after by Brett McMurphy of On3 Sports that Keenan would undergo tightrope surgery after suffering a lower-body injury on Tuesday.

The report states that Keenan will be out multiple games, which is not uncommon with tightrope surgery.

Keenan was voted as a captain for the Crimson Tide last week alongside center Parker Brailsford, quarterback Ty Simpson, and linebacker Deontae Lawson. The hope is that Keenan will be back for the Crimson Tide's matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs on September 27.

Alabama will now be down three starters for the season opener against Florida State, with starting right guard Jaeden Roberts still in concussion protocol after he did not scrimmage in Alabama's first two scrimmages, and starting running back Jam Miller will be out until Alabama's matchup with Georgia on September 27 with a dislocated collarbone he suffered in the Tide's second scrimmage of fall camp.

“Yet to be determined,” DeBoer said about Keenan’s status for Florida State. “Probably not but we’ll see… He had a lower-body injury. A lot of it is always, kind of, figure it out after practice. Obviously, gathering information in the moment I’m in right now, trying to understand exactly where it’s at. Our staff is unbelievable. They have done pretty impressive things on getting guys back. Waiting on the update on that. I don’t know if I can give you a percentage and be confident in that. But it is a lower-body injury.”
