For the first time this season, the Alabama Crimson Tide goes into a game weekend as college football’s top ranked team in the College Football Playoff rankings

Besides Alabama, Clemson is ranked second followed by third ranked Miami and fourth ranked Oklahoma. Undefeated Wisconsin and Auburn enter the weekend at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

With only two regular season games plus conference championship weekend remaning until the selection committee unveils the playoff field for the season, former Alabama fullback Martin Houston examined the road to the College Football Playoff on Wednesday’s edition of The Blitz.

Houston dissected a variety of factors that go into the rankings as well as the teams with the toughest road to the playoffs.

While Alabama is undefeated and has the potential of playing two top 10 opponents in Auburn and Georgia, the former Alabama fullback cautioned listeners about how the fatigue factor that could hinder the Crimson Tide among the members of the selection committee.

“What Alabama’s facing is fatigue.” Houston said. “You have to put them there because they’re winning, but if you have a chance to get them out, I think they try to get them out.”

The host of The Blitz later weighed the ramifications of how an Alabama loss would affect the makeup of the playoff field.

The Blitz kicks off live and local coverage of Alabama sports every weekday from 6-7 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the Tide 102.9 app.
