MBB Roster Rundown: Chris Youngblood
As we approach November 4, when Alabama will start its 2024-2025 campaign against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in Coleman Coliseum, we will break down the thirteen scholarship players on the Crimson Tide roster, both new and old.
Next up in our rundown is Tuscaloosa native Chris Youngblood.
Youngblood, a 6-4 guard from Tuscaloosa, played prep ball at East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga., leading Indians to a 24-4 record while recording 16.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game in 2018-19 during his junior season.
Youngblood committed to Kennesaw State out of high school, where he spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career. The Tuscaloosa native shined in Kennesaw, Ga., averaging 13.8 points and 4.5 rebounds with the Owls. Youngblood earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team in 2021 and the All-ASUN First Team in 2023.
In his final season at Kennesaw State, Youngblood helped lead the Owls to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, eventually losing to No. 3 seed Xavier in the first round, 72-67.
Youngblood hit the transfer portal after an excellent three seasons in Kennesaw, Ga. The 6-4 guard would opt to take his talents to Tampa, Fla., joining the South Florida basketball program.
Youngblood would shine during his lone season in Tampa Bay, averaging 15.3 points per game on 45.8% from the field. Youngblood's stellar senior campaign would earn a spot on the First-Team All-AAC team and Co-AAC Player of the Year honors.
A rock-solid shooter and a quality finisher at the rim, paired with solid perimeter defense and good size for a guard, makes Youngblood an excellent fit in Nate Oats' Crimson Tide squad.
The 6-4 guard will be a 5th-year senior due to an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, so this upcoming season in Tuscaloosa will be Youngblood's last of collegiate basketball.
