Milroe Movin’ On Up
The guy who didn't start or play in game three continues to reel in the honors.
Alabama redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in the week Milroe was named a Maxwell Trophy semifinalist and teammate Dallas Turner was announced as a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
Milroe is one of 20 semifinalists for the O’Brien which is presented annually to the nation’s top quarterback. Finalists will be announced on Nov. 28 with the 2023 winner of the O’Brien being named on Dec. 8 on ESPN as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards.
As an aside, Milroe is currently listed as having the seventh best chance to win the Heisman Trpphy by those in Las Vegas who make a living making odds.
Alabama has had two Davey O’Brien Award winners: Mac Jones in 2020 followed by Bryce Young a year later.
So far this 2023 season, Milroe has been a threat with both his arm and his legs every time he has touched the ball. The Katy, TX native has a 65.2 completion percentage on 129-of-198 passing for 2,070 yards and 16 touchdowns compared to six interceptions when the ball sails through the air.
Milroe has also accumulated 333 net yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on 105 carries. That total would be higher did college stats not count sacks against a quarterback's rushing yardage.
Milroe and his team face the Chattanooga Mocs Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
