TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama didn't escape from its 89-74 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats without a pair of injury scares, with the Crimson Tide losing forward Amari Allen during the first half due to an ankle injury. Allen only missed a handful of minutes, however, as he returned to the Tide's huddle with three minutes remaining in the first half.

After the game, Alabama head coach Nate Oats revealed that Allen suffered an ankle sprain, but it shouldn't keep the freshman from Green Bay out too long, according to Oats.

"Amari was able to play through - he had an ankle sprain," Oats said. "Talked to Dr. Cain after, he's gonna be real sore for a few days. We'll probably sit him until Vanderbilt, and he'll be able to go."

Allen returned to the game with 3:30 left in the first half and played a total of 31 minutes for the Crimson Tide on Saturday, totaling 11 points and nine rebounds, shooting 4-8 from the floor and 3-4 from three-point range.

Oats also mentioned former Florida State forward Taylor Bol Bowen, who did not play in Alabama's victory over Kentucky.

"Dr. Waldrop came in and did a whole evaluation yesterday on him. He wasn't quite ready," Oats said, "But available if needed. I think the job Noah Williamson did made it so we could sit Taylor for one more game, but he got a big jump start on his treatment. He had a sprained ankle in practice a few days ago."

The big loss for Alabama (pardon the pun) was center Aiden Sherrell, who played just nine minutes for Alabama before departing the game with a right knee injury. Sherrell was subbed out with 5:48 left in the first half and did not return, but did rejoin the Crimson Tide on the bench.

"Aiden Sherrell, we just didn't want to risk it," Oats said. "He's gonna get tested tomorrow on his knee. They don't think it's anything serious; we're thinking he's gonna be able to play against Vandy, but we want to make sure we get more tests on our off day tomorrow, before we make a decision on his availability moving forward next week."

Alabama will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, January 7.
