The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team is set to take on the Davidson Wildcats at 6 p.m. in the CM Newton Classic in the newly renovated Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Alabama was originally supposed to take on the Colorado State Rams in the classic but the Tide was forced to look for a last minute replacement due to COVID-19's Omicron variant working its way through the Rams' program.

Alabama head basketball Nate Oats in Monday's media availability responded to Colorado State's misfortune with the virus and the state of college basketball as the sport faces the Omicron variant.

"We want to keep everybody safe, we want to keep the virus down as much as we can but I think you've got to play these games, too, as much as possible and life's gotta move on in as normal a fashion as you can. Whether it's college basketball or just life in general. The economy's gotta move, people gotta work, people need to do things. I'd like to see every game played. I'd like to see things back to as normal as we could while still being safe for our student athletes," said Oats.

The Crimson Tide will close out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday with Davidson and then will turn its attention to the SEC schedule that gets underway on Wednesday, Dec. 29 against the Tennessee Vols.
