Nate Oats Makes Alabama History in Sweet 16 Win
Newark, N.J. - Alabama's victory over BYU in the Sweet 16 is already known as a record-breaking victory. The Crimson Tide made a program-record number of threes as well as an NCAA tournament record amount of threes.

But for Alabama head coach Nate Oats, it was record-breaking in another way. With the win over BYU and Alabama advancing to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, Oats now has the most Elite Eight appearances by an Alabama head coach, passing the tie with Mark Gottfried. Oats already owns the only Final Four appearance in program history.
The win goes beyond the Sweet 16 victory, however, as Nate Oats now sits atop all Alabama head coaches in NCAA Tournament wins in program history.
Going into Thursday's matchup with the Cougars, the Crimson Tide head coach was tied with Wimp Sanderson for most NCAA tournament wins in program history with 12. Alabama's win over BYU gives Oats his 13th NCAA Tournament win.
Oats has a chance to add to that record this season, with a maximum of three games left in Alabama's schedule (Elite Eight, Final Four, National Championship).
With Oats not planning to leave Alabama anytime soon, he has a chance to distance himself from the competition as the winningest coach in Alabama NCAA tournament history.
