Voting took place on collegefootballplayoff.com and fans registered over 100,000 votes total. That doesn't take into account the 50,000+ votes registered from an Austin IP address that were later dismissed.

Bill Hancock, the Executive Director of the College Football Playoff, made the announcement on Monday.

"College football’s post-season is moving in a new direction and our logo will change with it,” Hancock said in a press release. “The Gold Football design is a sharp and polished look that will represent the new system nicely. Like our new name, it’s direct and gets right to the point. With 611 days left until the first playoff game of the new era, this is a very exciting time for college football."

Fans now have a shiny new logo to go with an ordinary name, but the main question still remains: who will make up the selection committee?
