Officials to Assess Damage at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion

Officials at UCLA will be assessing the damage today to the school's famed basketball arena -- which just underwent a $132 million renovation a couple of years ago.

At least an inch of water covered the floor overnight, after a major water pipe on a nearby street burst and spewed some eight million gallons. The arena's locker rooms were also flooded.

The other two campus buildings that were damaged were the Wooden Center, which has training facilities for students, and a building that houses the school's sports trophies, hall of fame and athletics offices.

Firefighters using inflatable boats saved at least five people who were stranded in parking structures. No injuries were reported.

The break in the nearly century-old pipe came as Los Angeles is dealing with a historic drought. A city councilman says it's a bad time to lose about 35,000 gallons of water a minute.
