Ohio State WR Announces Transfer to Alabama

Ex-Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jameson Williams has announced via his Twitter Monday morning he will be transferring to Alabama for the 2021 season.

Williams entered the transfer portal last Thursday. He caught nine passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns for the Buckeyes last season. He's the second Ohio State receiver to transfer from the program this offseason, joining Mookie Cooper, who transferred to Williams's home state of Missouri.

“It’s Bama because I felt the want and need of my skill from coach (Nick Saban) as he explained everything to me,” Williams told BamaOnLine. “And I also had a great relationship with Coach (Holmon) Wiggins from the previous years. He made it most definitely feel like a place that I could be.”

Williams also cited the recent wide receivers selected in the first round of the NFL Draft as an impact in his decision. Alabama has had four wide receivers selected in the first round over the past two years (an NFL record at any position) and seven under Nick Saban's tenure, more than any other program in those 13 years.

Williams was a 4-star recruit in the 2019 class. He was the top-rated player in the state of Missouri out of Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School, the 13th-ranked wide receiver in the country and 82nd-overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite. Although the Crimson Tide targeted Williams, he chose Ohio State over Alabama, UCLA and many others.

Williams joins a young wide receiver group led by juniors John Metchie and Slade Bolden. The Crimson Tide added four freshmen in the 2020 recruiting class who ranked in 247Sports top-10 receivers in the country. Although sophomore Traeshon Holden and freshman Agiye Hall had standout performances in the A Day game in early April, there are still many questions surrounding the pass catchers for the Crimson Tide in 2021.
