PGA Tour Golfer Justin Thomas Reflects on His UA Experience [Audio]
While Nick Saban has rebuilt Alabama football into a national juggernaut, Alabama head men’s golf coach Jay Seawell has directed the Crimson Tide men’s golf program to two national championships in 2013 and 2014 and a runner-up finish in 2012.
One of the key players in that run was Justin Thomas. Thomas was a part of the 2013 national championship team and later turned pro and has four PGA Tour wins under his belt.
During his conversation on Inside the Locker Room with Wimp and Barry Sanderson, the former star for the Crimson Tide shared his feelings about playing at Alabama.
“My time at Alabama, although it was shorter than maybe I anticipated or others would have thought it may have been, but it was awesome.” Thomas said.
The PGA Tour professional elaborated on why he decided to come to Alabama.
“There’s a reason why I chose Alabama. I was fortunate enough to where because of my golf I could have gone most anywhere in the country, but it wasn’t even close where I wanted to go after I visited Alabama.” Thomas mentioned.
After deciding to take his game to the professional level, Thomas reflected on his feelings about the University of Alabama and the city of Tuscaloosa.
“Still to this day, I don’t know what it is about Tuscaloosa or the people there or what it is, but there’s just not really any places where I get happier when I pull off McFarland (Boulevard) there and I’m pulling into campus and kind of hang out with the guys out at the practice facility or go to a football game or just go to some of my favorite restaurants there.” Thomas said. “I mean, it’s just something about that place that puts me in a good mood and that town that just puts me in a good mood. It doesn’t really matter what’s going on, I’m just happy when I get there.”
Thomas also provided insights into life in professional golf as well as his relationship with his father.
Inside the Locker Room airs every weekday from 7-9 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the radioPup app.
