Instant Reaction From Alabama’s Shutout Loss to Oklahoma in the College World Series
OMAHA, Neb. - The Crimson Tide played in the College World Series for the first time since 1999, and while the accomplishment was monumental for the Alabama baseball program, led by third-year head coach Rob Vaughn, Alabama failed to do any damage in its opening game against the Oklahoma Sooners, falling 9-0.

Alabama Bats Go Ice Cold at Worst Possible Time
The Tide had just five hits in Saturday's contest, and the first one for Alabama didn't come until the fifth inning as Oklahoma pitcher Cord Rager kept sitting the Tide down in order for much of the contest. The closest Alabama came to scoring a run in the shutout loss was in the fifth inning, when Brennan Holt grounded into a double play, but allowed John Lemm to advance to third base. Luke Vaughn grounded out to second base to end the lone legitimate scoring threat for the Tide on Saturday.
Fay's Inconsistencies Cost Bama Defense
Tyler Fay got the bump for Alabama in the Tide's first game at the CWS, with Oklahoma figuring out the Tide's ace early with two runs scored in the top of the first. Fay pitched a total of six innings, allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, and two walks, but struck out 6 hitters for the Sooners. A poor start had Alabama fans nervous about what could happen on Saturday, but Fay quickly rebounded, allowing one run through four innings. However, as he approached the 100-pitch mark, Fay let up a two-run bomb as Oklahoma blew the game open with a 5-0 lead over the Crimson Tide. Fay's day would end in the sixth inning.
The Tide Now has its Back Against the Wall
It's tough to compete for a national championship in any sport, and had the Crimson Tide won today, they likely still would've had a slim chance to win the title, but the path just got even harder as Alabama will now have to win four consecutive games if it hopes to make the CWS finals. And what's worse is, Alabama played the lowest-seeded team on its side of the bracket, and just lost by 9 runs.
We've seen Rob Vaughn and the team talk about fight and grit all season long. That fight has to show up on Monday afternoon in Alabama's elimination game.
Alabama will now play an elimination game on Monday, June 15. The Crimson Tide will take on the loser of Georgia and Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
