Alabama edge rusher Yhonzae Pierre had a career day, totaling six tackles and 2.5 sacks (both career highs) in the win over Tennessee. Pierre was thrust into the starting Wolf linebacker role after injuries to Qua Russaw and Jah-Marien Latham, with Latham out for the season due to a neck injury he suffered during practice leading up to the Georgia game.

Pierre's career day was enough to earn him SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as awarded by the Southeastern Conference every Monday following the weekend's slate of games.

Pierre shared the weekly honor with another teammate, Alabama cornerback Zabien Brown. Brown led the Crimson Tide in tackles on Saturday with seven, but the bug play of the game came just before halftime. On a play action pass from Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar, Brown intercepted a pass in the endzone and ran it 98 yards the other direction, extending Alabama's lead to 23-7 as the clock expired in the first half.

It's the first weekly honor for both Pierre and Brown in their careers, and the eighth weekly honor that Alabama has collected this season.

No. 4 Alabama wil ltravel to Columbia, South Carolina, this Saturday for a 2:30 CT kickoff against the Gamecocks.
