Alabama's men's basketball team has been decimated by a combination of the NBA Draft, the transfer portal, and players just aging out of college athletics. If all five guys currently declared for the draft stay declared and none of the transfers opt to return, Rylan Griffen, Nick Pringle, Max Scharnowski, and Kai Spears will be the only returning players.

Fortunately, Alabama has filled two of its three assistant coaching vacancies and is pounding the recruiting trails both for high school players and portal targets. The latest grab for the Tide is preferred walk-on Ward Harrell.

Harrell stands at 6'7" and played high school ball at New Braunfels High School in Texas. His Unicorns team this season set a school record for wins in his senior season.

Harrell has big shoes to fill despite being a walk-on. Both Delaney Heard and Adam Cottrell are in the transfer portal and were fan favorites. At multiple times this season, the loudest Coleman Coliseum got was for a Heard or Cottrell, and fans were chanting for them to get in the game during the SEC Tournament Championship against Texas A&M.
