Seventeen hits and seven runs provided enough insurance for the Crimson Tide pitching staff, as Alabama baseball battled for the 7-6 win on Saturday in the series-clinching game against Auburn. With the win, the Tide improves to 27-24 overall and 10-16 in SEC play.

Six Alabama hitters collected double-digits knocks while every starter recorded at least one hit on the afternoon. Georgie Salem and Kyle Overstreet each recorded three hits apiece with Overstreet providing a team-high two runs scored.

Freshman starter Jake Walters had another good SEC outing, tossing 5.2 innings of work and allowing three runs (none earned) with six strikeouts. Jay Shaw came in as the second reliever of the day and went 1.0 innings with two strikeouts on the way to his second win of the season. Thomas Burrows shut the door with 1.1 innings of work that included one strikeout for his team-leading fifth save of the season.

Alabama goes for the sweep of Auburn tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT after claiming the series this afternoon. The Crimson Tide will call on sophomore right-hander Geoffrey Bramblett in game three while the Tigers will counter with junior righty Dalton Rentz.

Head Coach Mitch Gaspard

On Chance Vincent’s injury:

Preliminary tests on Chance Vincent look good. He was responsive and moving. It was a real scary moment when the collision happened, as it is anytime an injury deals with the head and neck. We should know more later, but the early signs are positive.”
