Former Alabama Quarterback Ty Simpson Taken by the Rams in the NFL Draft
Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is now a first-round draft pick, with the Los Angeles Rams taking Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Simpson, a former five-star quarterback commit, waited his time with the Crimson Tide behind fellow first-round quarterback Bryce Young and former third-round pick Jalen Milroe. Simpson was named Alabama's starter ahead of the 2025 season, where he led the Crimson Tide to an 11-4 overall record, going 10-2 in the regular season. Simpson led Alabama to an SEC championship appearance and a victory in the College Football Playoff over the Oklahoma Sooners before falling in the Rose Bowl against Indiana.
As Alabama's starting quarterback in 2025, Simpson, a 6-foot-2, 211-pound quarterback, completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns to just five interceptions. Simpson led the Crimson Tide to four consecutive wins over ranked SEC opponents, toppling No. 5 Georgia, No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Missouri, and No. 11 Tennessee during the middle portion of the season.
Simpson joins a Rams team that is led by MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford, but the Rams called Stafford earlier on Thursday to inform them of their decision to select Simpson, telling the 38-year-old QB that the pick is to set the franchise up for when Stafford retires.
The Rams are one of the best teams in the NFL, led by one of the best head coaches in the league in Sean McVay, boasting Puka Nacua as their top option at receiver alongside veteran DaVante Adams. The Rams have a strong offensive line to protect their quarterback, and a stout run game with Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. Simpson will be able to sit and learn behind one of the best quarterbacks in the game in arguably the top offense in the league.
Simpson is Alabama's second first-round draft pick of the evening, joining former Alabama OL Kadyn Proctor, who the Dolphins took with the 12th pick. This extends Alabama's streak of multiple first-rounders to 10 consecutive seasons.
