On Tuesday, Simpson was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the top player in college football. On Wednesday, he added to that list, being named a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football.

Simpson is one of 20 players named a semifinalist for the award, joined by six other players from the SEC:

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss
Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy
Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia
Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton

The three finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award will be announced later in November, and the award will be presented on Friday, December 12. The Alabama Crimson Tide has had three players win the award in program history: Jonathan Allen (2016), Tua Tagovailoa (2018), and DeVonta Smith (2020).
