University of Alabama Allowing Remote Learning For First 2 Weeks

The University of Alabama is giving students and faculty the option to switch to online learning for the first two weeks of the Spring 2021 semester.

This option is only temporary and still offers the chance for students to attend in-person activities remotely as well. The University has already prohibited in-person extra-curricular events for the first two weeks of the semester.

"While UA classroom transmission is almost nonexistent, we understand the concerns caused by recent events. All health and safety rules remain in effect, including mandatory distancing, masks and other protocols," The University said in a string of tweets Tuesday evening.

The announcement comes just one day after hundreds of Bama fans flooded The Strip on campus to celebrate the Crimson Tide's monumental 18th CFP National Championship win.

The University worked closely with the City and Tuscaloosa Police Department to control crowds and assume minimal risk of COVID-19 spread. Both UA and TPD officers lined The Strip for the entirety of Monday. As crowds spilled onto the streets, police sprayed half a can of pepper spray onto the ground to encourage the crowds to disperse roughly an hour after the game had ended.

However, as video has surfaced showing hordes of crimson and white bodies not wearing masks pushing against each other on the small two-block area, UA made the decision to ensure student safety on campus by allowing the student body to isolate with virtual learning, and allowing faculty to hold class remotely.
