Way Too Early Alabama 2025 Depth Chart Projection
Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Alabama Crimson Tide has set a date for its annual spring scrimmage, also known as A-Day. On April 12, Alabama fans can flock to Bryant-Denny Stadium to see what the Crimson Tide could look like in 2025. The biggest storyline of the scrimmage is the quarterback position for Alabama, which will be looking to replace Jalen Milroe after Milroe spent two seasons as the starter in Tuscaloosa.

Outside of the quarterback room, however, other positional battles are taking place, and rotations need to be determined among deep rooms at cornerback and wide receiver.
What could the Crimson Tide look like in 2025? Here is an early look at what Alabama's rotation could look like on August 30, when the Crimson Tide head down to Tallahassee to take on Florida State.
Quarterback
Starter: Ty Simpson
Depth: Austin Mack, Keelon Russell
Simpson has been Alabama's backup quarterback for two seasons and is the likely candidate to step in for Alabama. If Simpson is pushed for playing time, Austin Mack has been in Kalen DeBoer's system for two seasons and potentially could have the upper hand in the competition. Keelon Russell likely ends up as the better quarterback between the three, but as a true freshman, he will have to learn the playbook quickly and put more muscle on his body.
Running Back
Starter: Jam Miller
Rotation: Richard Young, Dre'lyn Washington
Depth: Daniel Hill, Akylin Dear, Kevin Riley
Miller is the leading returning running back for Alabama last season, with no inclination to him being upset as the starter. The running back room is dripping with talent, and I would expect Richard Young to see a drastically increased role in his redshirt sophomore season. Dre'lyn Washington also has blazing speed that could be of use for Alabama when wanting to run an up-tempo offense.
Wide Reciever
Starters: Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams, Isaiah Horton
Rotational players: Jalen Hale, Cole Adams, Jaylen Mbakwe
Depth: Rico Scott, Derek Meadows, Bubba Hampton, Lotzier Brooks
The wide receiver room might be the best room at Alabama in 2025. With the return of true freshman superstar Ryan Williams and senior Germie Bernard, Alabama is returning 53% of its receiving yardage production in 2024 with just those two. Bernard and Williams were also responsible for 58% of the receiving touchdowns for Alabama last season. With the re-addition of a healthy Jalen Hale and Cole Adams, plus Isaiah Horton from Miami in the transfer portal (616 yards, 5 TD) Alabama can threaten teams vertically in a method we have not seen since Bryce Young was throwing to Jameson Williams and John Metchie III.
Tight End
Starters: Josh Cuevas, Danny Lewis Jr.
Depth: Jay Lindsey, Marshall Pritchett, Kaleb Edwards
Cuevas transferred to Alabama following Kalen DeBoer's hiring as the Crimson Tide head coach. In 2024, he was the fourth-leading receiver for Alabama despite having a much lower target share than the three players ahead of him. As we saw in mop-up duty against Wisconsin, Cuevas will be instrumental in the passing game.
Alabama relies heavily on a tight end to be able to chip a rusher and then leak out into the passing game. For four years, that role was filled by Robbie Outz. Outz is off to the next stage of his career, but Danny Lewis Jr. could slide into that position nicely. Alabama is also reportedly extremely excited about the young freshmen duo of Marshall Pritchett and Kaleb Edwards.
Offensive Line
Starters:
LT: Kadyn Proctor
LG: Kam Dewberry
C: Parker Brailsford
RG: Jaeden Roberts
RT: Wilkin Formby
The offensive line will look to replace a crucial piece in Tyler Booker, but Kam Dewberry brings excellent size and veteran experience. He'll have to compete with veteran Geno VanDeMark for the starting role. The answer to right tackle is already in-house, as Wilkin Formby saw significant playing time in 2024, and will likely take another step in his development this offseason.
Defensive Line
Wolf: Qua Russaw
Rotation: Jah-Marien Latham, Yhonzae Pierre, Justin Hill
Depth: Noah Carter
Defensive Tackle: James Smith
Rotation: Edric Hill
Depth: Steve Mboumoua, Isaia Faga
Nose Tackle: Tim Keenan III
Rotation: Jeremiah Beaman
Depth: Isaiah Simmons
Bandit: LT Overton
Rotation: Kelby Collins, Jordan Renaud
Depth: Keon Keeley, Kevonte Henry
I think the defensive line could be even better for Alabama in 2025 than it was in 2024, a unit that allowed 144.5 rushing yards per game (52nd). Alabama's defense kept them in several games, thanks to the active nature of the pass rush. While I would have liked to see Alabama close on the high-pressure rate it saw from the edge spots in 2024, I think that unit will take the next step in 2025, and could be one of the more feared defensive fronts in college football.
Linebacker
Mike: Justin Jefferson
Stinger: Nikhai Hill-Green
Rotation: Deontae Lawson, Cayden Jones
Depth: Abduall Sanders, Luke Metz, QB Reese, Duke Johnson
Is Deontae Lawson returning? Yes. Was Deontae Lawson the starter for the last two seasons? Yes. However, Lawson is recovering from a significant lower-body injury to end the 2024 season, and he revealed in an interview he will likely be out until fall camp. Justin Jefferson was granted an extra year of eligibility and stepped into the starting Mike role when Lawson went out against Oklahoma on November 23. Until Lawson is fully cleared, and playing like his 2024 self, I expect Jefferson to step into the starting role, alongside Hill-Green, who can diagnose in the run game at a high level.
Corrnerback
Starters: Domani Jackson, Zabien Brown
Rotation: Dijon Lee, Cam Calhoun
Depth: Chuck McDonald
Jackson and Brown both started all 13 games for Alabama in 2024, and both are back in 2025. I expect Jackson to build on a really strong 2024 campaign, while Brown will develop into a lockdown cornerback after suffering a trial-by-fire in his first season of college football. Alabama likes to rotate cornerbacks, so expect to see Lee and Calhoun play significant reps for Alabama. Players as good as Dijon Lee won't be kept off the field for very long, if at all. The top of the cornerback room is highly capable for Alabama, but once again, depth may be of concern for the Crimson Tide.
Safeties
Free Safety: Keon Sabb
Strong Safety: Bray Hubbard
Husky: DaShawn Jones
Rotation: Zavier Mincey, Ivan Taylor, Red Morgan
Depth: Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., Kam Howard
The defense seemingly got better once Bray Hubbard entered the lineup against Tennessee, and DaShawn Jones played capable when filling in for DeVonta Smith at Husky. With a move to free safety for Keon Sabb, allowing him to play a more free-style football that he is accustomed to from his days at Michigan, it also allows Bray Hubbard to play close to the line of scrimmage in a hard-hitting role that he thrived in against LSU, Auburn, and Michigan.
