2012 has brought a college football season filled with thrilling moments and heartbreaking losses.  However, even as the sport has grown, becoming more popular than ever, attendance to these games have been on a decline.

In fact, according to a recent report by Jon Solomon of al.com, the regular season attendance in the Football Championship Series dropped to its lowest average since 2003 at 45,274 fans per contest. Brent Beaird of Lindys Sports and Collegesportsnotebook.com recently joined The Game and noted there are a number of reasons why attendance may be on the decline.

While attendance may currently be at a slide, Beaird believes that college football’s upcoming playoff system will lead to better matchups in the regular season, thus helping increase attendance in upcoming years.

According to the same report from AL.com, the Southeastern Conference again led the nation in attendance, drawing an average of 75,444 fans per contest.

The Game with Ryan Fowler and Mick Gillispie airs weeknights from 6-8pm on Tuscaloosa’s Sports Authority 99.1 WDGM.
