Wilkin Formby Speaks on Commitment to Alabama

Wilkin Formby, 4-star recruit and top-10 tackle prospect in the nation, committed to the Crimson Tide this week, joining four others in the 2023 class.

Formby sat down with The Gary Harris Show on Tuesday morning to talk about the decision and what went into him choosing Alabama.

"It came down a lot to me about development," Formby said, "Alabama is a school that has shown to develop players on and off the field, but especially linemen in the past few years."

The Northridge Jaguar went on to describe the relationship he has with Alabama's new offensive line coach, Eric Wolford, saying, "I have a great relationship with [Wolford]. We've known each other for over a year and I've gotten the chance to be coached by him at some camps and drills."

"[Wolford] is like a father figure the way he acts around me. He has a great personality off the field, but on the practice field, he flips that switch and he's ready to go."

While the Tuscaloosa native is currently one of the top prospects in America, just a year ago, ahead of Formby's junior season, the tackle was mostly an unknown commodity.

Diving into his recent rise up recruiting boards, Formby said, "It took a little bit of time. A lot of high rated recruits usually just blow up at a younger age, but it took some time for me to develop and get ready. I think it just made me work harder and develop into who I am today."

"I'm so fortunate and blessed and thankful for everything God has done for me (...) I get a chance that most kids would do anything to get, so I always try to remember that."

Formby's senior season kicks off on August 19 when the Jaguars, led by new head coach Ryan Lolley, take on the Oak Mountain Eagles.
