Alabama Alum Honored in Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Washington Commanders have added former Alabama defensive tackle Daron Payne's uniform to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
The display was put up to commemorate the new era of Washington football as the team changed its name from the Football Team to the Commanders this season.
Washington went by the Redskins from 1937-2019 until deciding to change its name. The team was known as the Football Team from 2020-21 and settled on its new name, the Commanders, in February of 2022.
In Week 1, Washington beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-22. Payne recorded three total tackles (two solo, one assisted), one sack, and two passes defended.
Payne was drafted to Washington in the 2018 NFL Draft as the No. 13 overall pick.
"It's pretty cool knowing I came from Birmingham, Alabama. A lot of kids don't make it from Birmingham. It's just awesome," said Payne to Commanders writer for NBC Sports Washington Pete Hailey.
The Commanders take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at noon CT. Check your local FOX listings to determine if the game is on in your area.
