Alabama Athletics officially announced the Alabama Women's Basketball Power of Pink Night for Sunday's rivalry matchup against Auburn.

The tradition started in 2005 when former gymnastics head coach Sarah Patterson came up with the idea to raise awareness for breast cancer, a disease affecting 264,000 women yearly.

There has also been efforts to implement some form of "Power of Pink" in other women's sports across the NCAA, including soccer and volleyball. Pink has even made its way to the NFL and the MLB. NFL players rock the pink gear during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and MLB players use pink gloves and pink bats on Mother's day.

The Tide has fared well in Power of Pink games this year, winning all three (the Alabama Volleyball's match against Alabama State was canceled due to an illness inside the Lady Hornets program). Kristy Curry and company could make it a perfect 4-0 this Sunday against the Auburn Tigers.

Be sure to pack Coleman Coliseum Sunday and wear your favorite pink outfit to help the Tide crush the Tigers.

Stay tuned to the Tide 100.9 Twitter feed and website for updates for the rest of the women's basketball season.
