Alabama Women’s Basketball Drops Fifth Straight; falls to Arkansas
The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped its fifth straight game on Thursday night, falling to the Arkansas Razorbacks, 99-71, inside of Coleman Coliseum.
Both squads came into the game looking to bounce back after tight losses. The Tide fell at home to Florida 85-77 on Sunday, while the Razorbacks almost upset No. 1 South Carolina, falling 61-52 in Fayetteville.
Alabama would have to earn this win without senior starter Megan Abrams, out due to COVID-19. Myra Gordon earned her first start in Abrams’ place.
Arkansas started the game off strong, building a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Razorbacks continued to dominate, extending the lead to 44-27 at halftime. Alabama picked up the pace offensively in the second half scoring 44 points, but the red-hot Hogs continued to shoot lights out, cementing the 99-71 win.
“It’s just one of those nights where you have to credit them [Arkansas], you pick yourself up, and you hit the reset button at midnight,” said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry.
Despite the loss, JaMya Mingo-Young and Brittany Davis proved to be bright spots for the Tide. Mingo-Young led all scorers with 22 points and Davis added 20 points. Alabama shot 39.1% from the field.
Amber Ramirez led the Razorbacks in scoring with 19 points. Arkansas shot 51.7% from the field.
The Razorbacks narrowly outrebounded the Tide 37-35.
Up next, Alabama (10-8, 1-6 SEC) travels to Auburn in hopes of completing the season sweep of the Tigers. Alabama defeated Auburn 56-53 in Coleman Coliseum on Jan. 2.
Tipoff is set for Sunday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
