Former Jacksonville State coach Bill Clark brings lofty ambitions to UAB's struggling football program.

The Blazers formally introduced Clark to replace Garrick McGee on Wednesday. He says "there is a ton of things to sell at the university."

Clark led Jacksonville State to its most victories since the Gamecocks' Division II champion team in 1992 during his lone season. Jacksonville State went 11-4 and advanced to the FCS quarterfinals.

UAB athletic director Brian Mackin says the search committee "all felt that Bill Clark is absolutely the best fit for our program."

He'll try to revive a program that hasn't had a winning record since 2004 and went 5-19 under McGee.

Clark says he and his coaching staff "are coming here as a destination to make this program great."
