UAB Opens Season Under New Head Coach
The UAB football program opens the season under interim head coach Bryant Vincent on Thursday, as the Blazers host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Protective Stadium.
Vincent was named interim head coach on June 27, 2022, after former UAB head coach, Bill Clark, announced that he would be stepping down due to health concerns.
Vincent previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2018-21. The Glasgow, Ky. native also took on the role of assistant head coach under Clark at UAB.
The Blazers were picked to finish second in Conference USA and earned eight first-place votes by the league's voting media members.
Five UAB players were named on the 2022 C-USA Football Preseason Watch List including running back Jermaine Brown Jr., offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort, defensive lineman Fish McWilliams, cornerback Mac McWilliams, and punter Kyle Greenwell.
UAB finished the 2021 season with a 9-4 record overall and 6-2 in Conference USA play. The Blazers concluded the year with a win in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl over then-No. 13 BYU, the highest ranked victory in school history.
Alabama A&M finished the 2021 season with a 7-3 record overall and 5-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Blazers currently hold a 2-0 advantage over the Bulldogs, picking up wins in 2014 and 2017 by a combined margin of 79-21.
Kickoff at Protective Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. CST on CBS Sports Network.
