Bryce Young Signs with Crimson Tide

Bryce Young signed his letter of intent to join the Alabama Crimson Tide today. December 18 is the first day high school seniors can officially sign with their new college programs. Young, a five star prospect out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. Young is ranked by 247sports as the number one duel threat quarterback in the 2020 class, he is ranked the number six overall recruit in the nation and the second rated recruit out of the state of California.

Young previously committed to Southern California in July of 2018, but flipped to Alabama in September of 2019. He won the Gatorade player of the year in California in 2020 and was named to the Sports Illustrated high school football All-American team.  Young led Mater Dei to the 2018 state championship and lost in the 2019 semifinals.  He will finish his high school career at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on January 4.

In his senior season Young passed for 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also rushed for 357 yards and 10 touchdowns. Young finished high school with 13,250 passing yards, 152 passing touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 1,084 rushing yards and 26 rushing touchdowns. Young was primarily recruited at Alabama by offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Young will plan on enrolling in January at Alabama and will compete in spring practice with the Crimson Tide. Young spoke with BamaOnLine about the potential for Tua Tagovailoa to return to Alabama in 2020.

“For me, it doesn’t really have any impact on my decision, for me I feel like Alabama is the best place for me, the best spot for me, regardless. I’m not sure what’s going on, I’m not sure what (Tua’s decision is), but regardless I’ll be in Tuscaloosa. I think there’s negatives and positives for both sides,” Young said. “I feel like there’s always an upside regardless of what happens. I think that if he were to come back I would definitely try to use that opportunity to learn and take advantage of being in the same quarterback room (with him).”
