Capstone Report with DC: Alabama’s QB Competition
When Alabama opens the 2018 season against Louisville, the entire college football world will find out whether Jalen Hurts begins the season as a third-year starter or if Tua Tagovailoa will make his debut start in a crimson and white uniform.
Prior to the Memorial Day weekend, Alabama received a commitment from Arkansas native Layne Hatcher.
As Pulaski Academy’s quarterback, Hatcher set multiple state records and helped win the school a state championship.
Hatcher joins, Hurts, Tagovailoa and Mac Jones among the list of scholarship quarterbacks on the Crimson Tide’s roster.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Blitz, DC of Golden Shores Productions analyzed the impact of Hatcher’s commitment to the Crimson Tide during his weekly “Capstone Report with DC” segment.
After discussing how Hatcher’s commitment adds some depth to the quarterback position, DC talked about how it also affects the future Mac Jones in a Crimson Tide uniform.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he considers transferring like many other Alabama quarterbacks have done who’ve performed well in the spring contest and then is not the starter or at least the second string coming into the start of the season.” DC said.
The Alabama football observer later listed Jones’ position behind both Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa on the depth chart and the incoming quarterbacks for the 2019 as reasons why the Jacksonville, Florida native is a candidate for a future transfer.
DC also analyzed the potential impact of redshirt freshmen Tyrell Shavers and Chadarius Townsend at wide receiver for the 2018 season.
The Blitz kicks off your day every weekday from 6-7 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the Tide 102.9 app.
