Casey Hughston Selected in the Third Round of the 2015 MLB Draft

Alabama outfielder Casey Hughston was selected 96^th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.

Hughston’s selection is the second-highest an Alabama outfielder has been taken in program history behind only Joe Vitiello, who was drafted seventh overall by the Kansas City Royals in 1991.

Hughston started all 60 games this season in right field and served as the primary cleanup hitter. The sophomore closed out 2015 as the team’s leader in hits (78) and total bases (118) and maintained a .332 average that ranked second for the Tide. He contributed 24 extra-base hits that included 14 doubles, four triples and six home runs, while adding 12 stolen bases – all totals that were second on the squad. A model of consistency, Hughston reached base safely in 52 of the Crimson Tide’s 60 games.

The Mobile native sported a .306 (125-409) average over his two-year career and put together 69 RBI and 56 runs scored across 112 games, 107 of which he started.
