COVID-19 Cases Spike to 386 Statewide, 15 in Tuscaloosa County
Confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus spiked by more than 100 between reports released by the Alabama Department of Public Health Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon as cases statewide reached 386.
Around 10 o'clock, the ADPH reported 283 cases statewide. That number rose by 103 confirmed cases in just seven hours.
Here in Tuscaloosa County, confirmed cases rose from 10 Wednesday morning to 15 this afternoon.
In Jefferson County, there are now 129 confirmed cases. There are 42 in Shelby County, 40 in Lee County, 35 in Marshall and Madison Counties, 13 in Montgomery County and 10 each in Chambers and Mobile Counties.
The virus also claimed its first Alabamian life Wednesday, as the Jackson County Commission confirmed that a part-time employee at their courthouse lost their life after contracting the virus.
Shelter-in-place orders are now in effect in Birmingham and Bessemer, and a mandatory nightly curfew has been announced in Tuscaloosa.
