Deontay Wilder Has His Next Opponent
Boxing legend Deontay Wilder has his opponent, all he needs now is a date. With 2023 looking set to be a great year in boxing, Tuscaloosa native looks to be facing Andy Ruiz in the coming months as a title eliminator fight.
The World Boxing Council or 'WBC' has made this a mandatory next fight for both men. With the winner facing the current champ Tyson Fury, who might have to meet heads with Usyk for the Undisputed label in the Heavyweight division.
Andy Ruiz is 35-2 with an exceptional knockout victory of the Britain phenomena Anthony Joshua in 2019 in Madison Square Garden. He won the titles that night but would lose them in the rematch just a few months later. Since then, he's been a little quiet to the mainstream fans, but a fight like this puts his name back in mainstream headlines.
For Deontay Wilder, while the heavyweight title is still on his mind to make his last run, He must get through Ruiz to even make fights with AJ, Fury, or Usyk even possible for his next step.
Coming off a knockout win vs Helenius in Brooklyn back in October, Wilder needs another impressive win to get his name back in the conversation for the big name fights we want him to have.
Likely the fight will take place in Las Vegas but there has been reports of it taking place in Los Angeles. May was the rumored date but that has been pushed back due to Errol Spence taking on Keith Thurman on Showtime PPV.
