Alabama Linebacker Deontae Lawson Following 29-22 Win Over South Carolina
Following the Crimson Tide's 29-22 comeback victory over the Gamecocks on Saturday, Alabama's senior linebacker Deontae Lawson talked to the media. He reflected on his forced fumble late in the fourth quarter that led to Alabama's lead-taking touchdown with seconds left in the game.

When asked about him stripping the ball away from South Carolina quarterback Lanorris Sellers, Lawson mentioned that he had been working on it for a long time and that the coaching staff tells them it "Takes 100 rips at the ball for you to get one." Lawson went on to talk only about the team and how happy he was to have made a big-time, game-changing play that allowed his team to win.
"Been working at that now for who knows how long. Our coach always says it takes 100 rips at the ball for you to get one, so it's definitely a big play for the team." Lawson said, "Just try to do everything I can to help these guys win, man, I love these guys, and just gotta keep going. "
After the game, Lawson appeared in a post-game interview with the media while wearing a boot. When a reporter asked about it, the Crimson Tide's senior linebacker explained, "This is just a precautionary measure. It's a little wear and tear I've been dealing with." He assured everyone that he will be participating in practice this week without any injuries holding him back.
The senior linebacker, who suffered an ACL tear less than a year ago, was asked about the significance of his performance in today's game. He not only recorded a forced fumble late in the fourth quarter, but also made seven tackles—four of which were solo—and had one pass breakup. This came after a slow start in the first seven games of the season.
"First, God is amazing. Haven't been really playing up to my standard that I've wanted to, but I know that I've been putting in the work, doing whatever I need to do extra to make an impact on the game." Lawson said, "We can only go up from here, and like I said, just God is amazing and so good to me."
Lawson's final question was definitely his toughest to answer with a member of the media asking if this team could've weathered all of these storms as a team a year ago in which Lawson who hhas been apart of the program for five-year responded "I think that our experiences together from last year helped us to be able to weather any storm this year and especially coming off a week one loss man and then fighting back week after week. We know we are built for any moment, and we can always find a way to win."
Lawson and the Crimson Tide will take a week off next week, resting up during the bye week before taking on LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, November 1st.
