Derrion Reid Needs One More Good Practice
Alabama head coach Nate Oats is optimistic that Alabama can be near full strength as Alabama prepares to face one of Oklahoma, Georgia, or Kentucky in the SEC tournament in the quarterfinals on Friday night.

The Crimson Tide head men's basketball coach said Alabama is "as healthy as can be" outside of the two players who are out for the season (Latrell Wrightsell Jr., Houston Mallette).
That health update includes Derrion Ried, who has missed the last six straight games for Alabama basketball and 13 total games this season. On Wednesday, Oats said Reid needed one more good practice to be cleared to play on Friday.
“Derrion was able to practice in some limited capacity but wasn’t doing 5-on-5 stuff,” Oats said on Wednesday. “Provided he has another good day tomorrow morning in practice, hopefully he’ll be cleared to play for the weekend, which would be great. It would give us a little bit more depth if we’re fortunate enough to end up playing three games in a row.”
Reid has not played since Alabama's Feb. 15 loss to the Auburn Tigers. In that game, Reid only played four minutes.
Oats also provided an update on Alabama forward Grant Nelson.
“I think we’re as healthy as we can be,” Oats said. “Obviously, we’ve got a couple guys out for the year. Grant would be the one. He kind of missed practice going into Auburn, but if he can play like he did against Auburn, I think looked pretty healthy that game."
“If we can get Grant and Derrion back at full strength and helping us, we’ll be in great shape to try to play three in a row.”
