Five-Star Linebacker Recruit Sets Official Commitment Date

The Alabama Crimson Tide continues to heat up on the recruiting trail, with a strong presence for some of the top recruits in the country.

In addition to Cincere Johnson, another one of Alabama's top linebacker targets has announced when he will officially commit. According to Brett Greenberg of 247 Sports, five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin will announce his commitment on June 29.

Griffin appears to be choosing between Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, and Texas as his top four schools.

A 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker from Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Georgia, Griffin de-committed from USC on May 14, with experts immediately noting that the Tide is the school to watch for the former USC Trojan.

Griffin is ranked as the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 2 linebacker in the country, according to composite. He only played in eight games as a junior in 2024, but finished the season with 43 tackles and six sacks. In 2023, as a sophomore, Griffin finished the season with 54 tackles and 15 sacks.

Where is Griffin Visiting?

Outside linebackers' coach Christian Robinson and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack are the top two recruiters for Griffin. He's made three visits to Tuscaloosa already, the most out of any school Griffin is currently considering.

Griffin currently has four official visits scheduled:

Ohio State: May 30
Alabama: June 6
Texas: June 13
Florida State: June 15

Griffin is one of several five-star recruits expected to visit Alabama during the 2025 spring visiting window.

Experts Predict Griffin Signs with the Tide

The Crimson Tide has already picked up a crystal ball from one of the top recruiting experts in the country, Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports. Fong has submitted a prediction for Alabama to land the five-star prospect from Georgia.
