Former Alabama Quarterback Hired As SEC Analyst
Former Alabama quarterback Freddie Kitchens is headed to Columbia, S.C., to be an analyst for South Carolina, according to senior national college football reporter for On3Sports Matt Zenitz.
Kitchens played for the Crimson Tide from 1993-97 and went 343-of-680, 4,668 yards, 30 touchdowns and 26 interceptions and won both the 1995 Citrus Bowl and the 1997 Outback Bowl.
The Alabama alumnus has a long coaching history since graduating from The Capstone joining the Glenville State staff a year out of college as the running backs and tight ends coach.
His longest tenure was with the Arizona Cardinals for a decade working as the tight ends coach, quarterbacks coach, and running backs coach. His most notable job was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2019, leading the team to a 6-10 record and finishing third in the AFC North.
Last year, Kitchens served as the New York Giants senior offensive assistant and interim offensive coordinator after Jason Garrett was fired in November of 2021.
The Alabama native is returning to college football after a 16-year hiatus. His last college football gig was the Mississippi State running backs coach in 2005.
Kitchens is joining a re-building South Carolina Gamecocks squad who went 7-6 last season and won the 2021 Duke's Mayonnaise Bowl 38-21 against the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Last season marks the first winning season for the Gamecocks since 2018.
