Verteran broadcaster Gary Harris is nearing a return to the radio after surgery to remove a polyp from his vocal cords earlier this month.

Harris, who pulls double duty as host of The Gary Harris Show on Tide 102.9 and sports director at WVUA 23, believes he could be back within the first two weeks of May.

"The surgery was successful and my voice is getting stronger every day," Harris said. "I am meeting with my doctor again on May 8 and if he clears me, I will return to work on May 9."

Since taking some time off beginning in March, Harris has been contacted by Tide 102.9 listeners to wish him well and find out more about his return.

"A lot of people have sent me well wishes and expressed their concern. I really appreciate it."

Harris expects a full recovery from the surgery and should soon be back in studio to host The Gary Harris Show every weekday from 9-11 AM. James Hardy has been filling in for the past month and will continue as the show's producer when Harris returns.
