It was only but a few days ago when it was announced that the former Crimson Tide pitcher and 12 year Alabama softball pitching coach, Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro, would be departing from Tuscaloosa to take on the head coaching job at the University of Memphis.

According to a report from The Tuscaloosa News, Illinois's own Lance McMahon is expected to take over the Alabama softball pitching coach position.

McMahon was named pitching coach at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign starting in 2016 and in 2022, helped the Fighting Illini land a 3rd place position in the final Big 10 Conference rankings.

Alabama softball fans have an interesting 2023 season to look forward to, as the sudden change in pitching coaches comes just months after several Crimson Tide standouts entered the transfer portal, as well as the arrival of some new transfers.
