Atlanta Falcons Support Girls' Flag Football in Tuscaloosa County

The Atlanta Falcons have stepped up to help support young female athletes across Alabama. Grants from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation will assist 25 high schools across Alabama in launching flag football programs for young girls.

AHSAA assistant director and director of football Jeff Segars is excited for the opportunity to help young female athletes in Alabama.

"We are grateful to the NFL and especially the Atlanta Falcons for their support to help bring girls' flag football to the AHSAA and our high schools,” Segars said.

Two of those 25 high schools receiving support from the Atlanta Falcons are in Tuscaloosa County -- Brookwood High School and Holt High School.

Though more than 86 Alabama high schools currently offer girls' flag football, the sport itself won't officially be AHSAA-sanctioned until the 2024-2025 school year.

“It’s is so popular," Atlanta Falcons Community Relations Director Amanda Dinkel told WBRC.

"It is growing like wildfire. The girls love it and the passion is out of this world. It’s one of the fastest growing sport in our state with around 250 high school programs with flag football.”

2023-2023 Rising Star Character Students of the Month

During the 2022-2023 school year, Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district, highlighting two to three students each month.
