Birmingham Band Director Arrested After Recent Football Game
High School football season is in full swing and that includes everything that comes with it. Parents, alumni, students, cheerleaders and the marching bands.
Well, this past Thursday, high school football took an interesting and shocking turn. It wasn’t the actual game between Minor High School and Jackson-Olin High School that drew negative attention, but it was what happened after the game with the marching bands.
The game had ended. The stadium was being cleared as usual and officers noticed both bands were still playing, per reporting from ABC 33/40.
Not completely out of the normal for those familiar to high school football.
However, authorities say that as Jackson-Olin's bad stopped playing for the evening, Minor's continued.
Here is where the evening gets interesting.
The band director for Minor High School, Johnny Mims, was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest in the dispute.
Officers attempted to get the director for the band to stop playing, but after a back-and-forth, the decision was made to place him in custody for disorderly conduct.

ABC 33/40 reports Mims was uncooperative as he was being arrested, refusing to be handcuffed. The officer arresting Minor's band director claims to have been pushed in the exchange.
The physical confrontation ended when the police subdued Mims with a taser.
Mims was transported and treated at the UAB Hospital and released to the Birmingham City Jail. He was booked and was released on bond.
This is a developing story and we will update you with any new information.
