James Spann was on The Jay Barker Show to reminisce on the ninth anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that struck the state of Alabama. You can listen to the whole interview with ABC 33/40's expert meteorologist on the Tide 100.9 Youtube Page.

Spann talked about the days leading up to the horrific day, he talked about the month of April being particularly bad for severe weather. He spoke about the morning round of storms which killed five people and knocked out power throughout the state.

He talked with the hosts about Mayor Maddox calling Spann in an effort to find out more information about the weather after the initial tornadoes. Spann commented that the particular phone call allowed Spann to realize how vast the destruction and devastation was.

The meteorologist said they have reviewed the messaging for severe weather in order to get the public to take these warnings more seriously. Spann called the day a "defining day" in his career.

Spann explained to the audience what made the tornadoes so deadly on that particular day and he went in depth on how he has been changed since that fateful day.
