Alabama women’s golf coach Mic Potter announced the addition of sophomore Janie Jackson to the Crimson Tide roster for the 2013-14 season on Tuesday afternoon.

The Huntsville, Ala., native arrives at the Capstone after playing her freshman season at the University of Arizona. Jackson started all 11 events for the Wildcats, who finished eighth at the NCAA Championships, with a 74.55 scoring average and three top 10 finishes.

“We are excited to have Janie as part of our program and thrilled to add another talented Alabama native to the Crimson Tide roster,” Potter said. “I always thought Janie was a fantastic player as I watched her grow up in the state of Alabama. She has unlimited physical potential and really hits the ball a long way. We think she can bring great things to our program and add to our winning tradition.”

Jackson posted 11 rounds of par or better and three rounds in the 60s for the Wildcats in 2012-13. She also earned honorable mention All-Pac 12 honors as a true freshman.

Jackson was a three-time Alabama State Champion at Huntsville High School and a three-time All-State honoree. She has participated in two LPGA Tour events, gaining entry as an amateur through Monday qualifying for the 2012 LPGA Mobile Bay Classic and the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic. She made the cut at the 2011 LPGA Navistar, shooting a second-round 67.

She won the 2010 AJGA Franklin Open while recording runner-up finishes at the 2012 AJGA Huntsville Open, 2011 Huntsville Open, 2011 Franklin Open, 2010 Huntsville Open and 2009 AJGA Rome Open.

Jackson joins an Alabama team that returns four starters from the 2012-13 team that won the SEC Championship, finished seventh at the NCAA Championships and featured the SEC Player of the Year (Stephanie Meadow) and the SEC Freshman of the Year (Emma Talley).
