The Montevallo Bulldogs (4-4, 4-2) took on the Holt Ironmen (2-6, 2-4) in a 4A matchup that saw both teams play very competitively.  The story of the night; however, was miscues and sloppy play for both teams. On the the opening kickoff, Montevallo muffed the kick and Holt recovered only to fumble and give the ball back to the Bulldogs just one play later.

That same Bulldog drive ended with a blocked punt and subsequent touchdown from RB Tyler Flowers for Holt.

Despite RB Joseph Anderson carrying the Montevallo offense with 273 yards and five touchdowns on 44 carries, the game stayed close throughout.  QB Jordan Driver for Holt ended the night with 184 yards through the air and accounted for two touchdowns.  Driver put up a solid performance, finding many big plays with his arm, but also fell victim to the theme of the night and threw a crucial pick-six to Kial Lottingham to close out the first half and make the score 20-12.

The second half saw Montevallo keep the game just out of reach for Holt, despite a late opportunity for the Ironmen to tie.  Down seven points with seven minutes left, Holt was stopped and forced to line up for a punt on a fourth and long only to have it blocked by Montevallo who scored and put the game away two plays later.

Montevallo coach Blake Boren after the game was impressed with his team saying, "What I'm impressed with is that we have six in COVID-19 protocol. We've got three starters on offense that are out, and for our kids to come out and fight and play a really athletic Holt team and have the success we had I'm very proud of our kids."  Boren went on to explain that Montevallo had two freshman receivers start this game who had never taken varsity snaps and he was very happy with how they stepped up tonight.

Holt's coach Curtis Graves spoke after the game as well, "We had a pretty good game, but we still struggled to stop the run. We showed glimpses in the second quarter, but Montevallo made an adjustment and we were unable to adjust to that."

Holt, no longer in playoff contention, takes on Bibb County next week and if they can build on some of the flashes shown tonight may have a shot at keeping it competitive. Montevallo goes back home to face Dallas County next week, and should see some faces return from COVID-19 protocol which would bode well for this Bulldog team.
