The University of Alabama golf team is going to have an even pricier home than originally considered. While the Crimson Tide basketball team is frustratingly waiting for news and approval of its new stadium, the physical properties committee met on Thursday, Feb. 2 to approve an increase to the budget of a new golf practice facility.

The facility was originally proposed alongside the addition of a new stadium for Alabama basketball. Nate Oats and fans will have to settle for an extension though that will keep the head coach in Tuscaloosa til the end of the 2028 season.

Meanwhile, both the men's and women's golf teams have been approved for a $13 million increase in the budget towards the construction of their new shared practice facility. Around this time last year, the initial budget was proposed at just over $26 million. The new total comes to be around $39 million.

This new facility will feature a nine-hole course, a driving range, a short-game area, and an extravagant clubhouse. Within the planned 18,000-square-foot clubhouse, various memorabilia will be displayed showing off the history of the game and of the Alabama golf program. The elaborate clubhouse is split into two wings, one side for the men and the other side for the women. Each wing will include offices, hitting bays, locker rooms, and bag storage rooms.

The university is looking to fund this project through the "Crimson Standard" fundraising initiative as well as donations and gifts from the Crimson Tide Foundation. The location of the building and course is planned to be alongside Kicker Road, which is much closer than the current facilities at Ol'Colony Golf Complex. Alabama Golf teams have used the facilities at Ol'Colony since the construction of the Jerry Pate Golf Center in 2005. It has served as the universities home course ever since.

Both the men's and women's golf teams are looking to start their spring seasons this month. The men's season starts at the John Hayt Intercollegiate on Feb. 5 and 6. The women's season starts at the Moon Golf Invitational on Feb. 19-21.
