Nick Saban Could Break College Football By Poaching These Players

The Alabama Crimson Tide has picked up two major players by way of the transfer portal in the last week. Ohio State wide receiver Jameson Williams and Tennessee linebacker Henry To'o To'o both decided to join Nick Saban's defending national championship team. Both have played high level college football and fill positions of need for the Crimson Tide in the 2022 season.

Saban warned college football that the new transfer rules would allow the rich to get richer and that has already come to pass with the Tide's addition of Williams and To'o To'o.

Alabama's roster is loaded already going into the 2021 season, but could the Tide improve by cherry-picking more players from around the country? Here are five players that could help the Tide if Saban were to look for more established help or to cripple the competition.

Defensive End - Kayvon Thibodeaux - Oregon

Who couldn't use next season's No. 1 draft prospect on their roster? Alabama already sports one of the deepest defensive lines in the nation but Thibodeaux is the kind of talent you never turn down. If the Crimson Tide is looking to keep itself head-and-shoulders above the competition Thibodeaux's 49 tackles, 23.5 for a loss and 12 sacks in two seasons would make nasty addition to the Bama defense.

Cornerback - Derek Stingley - LSU

The Alabama Crimson Tide saw its top defensive back, Patrick Surtain, drafted No. 9 to the Denver Broncos in last month's NFL Draft. Surtain's departure elevates Josh Jobe into the No. 1 cornerback position and creates an opening that redshirt junior Jayln Armour-Davis appears to be filling. Stingley is considered the top corner in college football in 2021 and has earned First Team All SEC twice in his two seasons in Baton Rouge. Replacing Surtain while also taking one of LSU's best defensive players would serve Saban doubly entering 2021.

Tight End - Jalen Wydermyer - Texas A&M

Last season's Crimson Tide defense struggled defending running backs and tight ends in pass coverage. Saban could help his defense out by removing one of the best tight ends from its upcoming schedule. Jahleel Billingsley broke out last season and reports from spring practice have Cameron Latu excelling however Wydermyer has already established himself as a top tight end in the SEC. In two seasons he has 78 receptions for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Offensive Guard - Cade Mays - Tennessee 

Cade Mays is no stranger to the transfer portal as he originally was in school at the University of Georgia. Alabama does return Evan Neal and Chris Owens but the 6-foot-6, 325 pound offensive lineman would add another veteran presence on an offensive line that lost three players to the NFL Draft this past year while also removing a key piece from first-year head coach Josh Heupel.

Punter - Jake Camarda - Georgia

Alabama hardly punted all season last year with its historic offense but when it did Charlie Scott averaged 39.2 yards per punt and landed nine punts inside the 20-yard line. Alabama could steal from one of its conference rivals and convince Jake Camarda to come to the Capstone. Camarda averaged 46.6 yards per punt and downed 50 punts inside the 20-yard line. He also was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Year. While Alabama does not rely on its punter that often it could be comforting to roll out the nation's best and know that Kirby Smart's program suffers for it.
