Throughout spring practice, head coach Nick Saban and various players have emphasized the importance of developing leadership among the players for the upcoming season.

In his second press conference of spring practice, Saban relayed how much of a priority leadership development is for the team and how it can positively affect the chemistry on the team.

"I think leadership is something that we're trying to emphasize. I think having people on the team and peers on the team that can really reinforce the principles and values of the program and the organization are really beneficial to developing the kind of team chemistry that you need to have to have a championship team." Saban said.

Alabama's head football coach noted how the leadership on the team was a critical factor in some of his best teams winning championships.

"All the good teams that we've had around here, the teams that have won championships, we've had the kind of leadership that help people sustain through the tough times. They demanded that everyone sort of adhere to the standard. It wasn't just the coaches preaching that." Saban said.

Saban drove the point further regarding his goal of building leadership among the best players on the roster.

"It really makes it special when you have the best players on your team also are the guys that are the best leaders, and that's something that I'm hopeful we'll be able to have on this year's team and develop it even further to help us have a chance to be successful." Saban said.

The Crimson Tide returns to the practice field Saturday to put a bow on their first full week of spring practice.
