Alabama OC Ryan Grubb Says "We Will" Fix the Run Game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama's run game struggled (to put it nicely) during the 2025 season, rushing for just 104.1 yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry - both ranking 15th out of 16 teams last season in the SEC.

The Crimson Tide know that last year's rushing efforts aren't up to the standard, and Alabama made significant changes across the board to remedy a poor run game last season:

Alabama brought in 11 new offensive linemen, all with eligibility beyond the 2026 season.
Alabama fired offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, hiring former Oregon, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots OL coach Adrian Klemm
Hired tight ends coach Richard Owens from Louisville, where he coached offensive line for the Cardinals.

But fixing a run game doesn't happen overnight, especially when it has been trending downwards for five consecutive seasons as Alabama's has. Despite the challenge, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has shown excitement to work with the new additions to eradicate Alabama's rushing woes using his plan.

"Simplify and do your best stuff. Don't get an inch deep and a mile wide," Grubb said. "Do what you're good at and be great at it. And Coach Klemm has done an excellent job with helping build that. And between him and Rich Owens, I'm super excited to work with those two guys and resurrect the run game."

Grubb finished his answer with three words that proved he understands how important that aspect of Alabama's game is: "And we will."

Alabama returns to the practice field on Friday, August 7, and is set to open the season on Saturday, September 5, against East Carolina.
