The SEC announced on Wednesday morning that sophomore star Alabama gymnast Luisa Blanco was named the SEC Gymnast of the year.

The No. 8 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide took down two top-five ranked teams to win the SEC Championship in Huntsville, Alabama. Top ranked Florida and the fourth ranked LSU Tigers both came up short, finishing third and second respectively and head coach Dana Duckworth to claim the program's 10th SEC Championship.

The 2021 NCAA gymnastic regionals championship is coming to Coleman Coliseum on April 1-3. Tuscaloosa is one of four cities selected to host the regional gymnastic championships. Athens, GA, Morgantown, West Virginia and Salt Lake City, Utah will host the other three regionals.

Luisa Blanco was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced earlier Tuesday.

Alabama gymnastics only has one loss in the season so far, and it was a close one. The ladies latest meet in Athens, GA Friday against the Dawgs ended in a final score of 197.00 VS 197.275. This puts the team at 4-1 on the season and 2-1 on the road. Although the Tide lost, a combined team score of 197.00 is the highest of the season thus far and there is still plenty of time to bounce back.

In the wake of the recent allegation from former Alabama gymnast, Tia Kiaku, Alabama Gymnastic's official twitter handle put out a video showing solidarity among the current gymnasts. Kiaku, alleged earlier in the week that she and other African-American gymnasts were subjected to racially insensitive comments made by assistant coach, Bill Lorenz. Lorenz has issued an apology.

Racial injustice is in the forefront of the news cycle amid the recent death's of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. Amid the protests of racial injustice, many minorities have been sharing personal accounts of racism they have experienced. One former Crimson Tide Gymnast, Tia Kiaku, tells a story of her experience as a member of the Alabama gymnastics team.

Makarri Doggette became the Crimson Tide's 75th gymnast to earn All-American Honors. Doggette was named an All-American for her excellence in the uneven bars. The freshman finished the year with a 9.905 national qualifying score on the uneven bars and led the Tide in the event in seven contests.

It’s a big February Friday for Alabama athletics as five of its teams will be in action. The top ranked Alabama softball team heads down to Tallahassee Florida to play two games with each North Carolina and Florida State. The women’s gymnastics team hosts its “Power of Pink” meet in Tuscaloosa against Missouri. The men’s tennis team returns to from Minnesota to Tuscaloosa to take on Tulsa. The Alabama swimming and diving team travels to Auburn to participate in the Auburn Invitational and the Tide indoor track and field team heads out to Albuquerque to participate in the New Mexico Classic.
