Historically Black Colleges and University football programs have been in the spotlight recently. People wonder, can these programs produce pro athletes?

Simply put, the answer is YES! Of course, HBCU programs can produce professional football athletes. In fact, the state of Alabama has an HBCU that is on the list of top-producing NFL athletes. According to this post, Alabama State University is in the top 15 when it comes to HBCU programs that have produced the most NFL players with 27 players.

Recently, HBCU sports have been getting attention partly due to NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Sanders is the new coach of Jackson State University in Mississippi and has been doing an amazing job. Not only at coaching his team and helping young men mature through their tenure on the team, but also making sure HBCU programs have the attention they deserve.

Deion Sanders made headlines on early National Signing Day. The No. 2 overall high school football recruit Travis Hunter shocked the sports world when he de-committed to Florida State and committed to Jackson State University.

In a tweet, Hunter spoke about how playing for Florida State was always a dream of his.

"It's a dream that is hard to let go of, but sometimes we are called to step into a bigger future than the one we imagined for ourselves. For me, that future is at Jackson State University."

To any high school athlete, know that if your goal is to go pro, you can definitely achieve that by playing for an HBCU. Your talent will speak for itself, not the institution you attend. Work hard, and the results will show.
